Providing food and support for Wallasey
Providing food and support for Wallasey
Welcome to Fed Up
Fed up is a project run by the Wirral Development Trust and funded by Wirral Borough Council setup to combat the rising levels of food poverty in the Wallasey constituency.
The Wallasey constituency consists of 6 local council wards, Leasowe & Moreton East, Liscard & Egremont, Moreton West & Saughall Massie, New Brighton, Seacombe, and Wallasey.
Our goal is to work with existing charities, community groups, faith groups, schools and businesses to setup hubs within each ward, with the aim of giving people the support they need to move out food poverty.
We plan to do this in a number of ways, and each hub will work autonomously with support and guidance from the Fed Up project. A hubs main provision may, for example, be:
- A social supermarket, selling food to their community at a reduced rate.
- A community café or luncheon club, providing cooked meals for the local community.
- Offering subsidised wrap around care for school aged children including breakfast and evening meals.
- Provide food to school age children and their families throughout the school holidays.
- Provide a delivery/meals on wheels service.
The Fed Up project will work to increase the food provision in each hub, and work with additional agencies to provide additional support services, for example assistance with benefits, job searching, debt advice, budgeting, mental and physical health support.
